Jim returned home to wait for the sheriff’s office to send an investigator around.

He returned to his room after making sure that Diana had not returned while he had been away.

He pulled out his tape recorder and loaded the third and last tape relating to Franklin John Hamlin recorded by Dr Asmodian.

“Frank, do you hear me?”

“Yes, doctor I do.”

“Since our last session has anyone asked you more questions about Satanists?”

“Yes, Sophia Settson asked me about them.”

“Who is Sophia Settson?”

“She is an inmate at the Sanatorium.”

“Why did she ask about Satanists?”

“She said that she had been captured by Satanists too.”

“What did she say happened to her?”

“She said she was kept naked in a dungeon.”

“Is that all that happened to her?”

“No, she said that she was given something to drink in an old fashioned cup.”

“Is that all that happened?”

“No, she said that she was taken into a large hall where she was tied onto a stone bed.”

“Is that all?”

“She didn’t tell me anything else. The nurse took her away.”

“Sophia Settson is mentally disturbed, Frank. Do you know that?”

“We are all mentally disturbed, doctor, that is why we are at the sanatorium.”

“You are right, Frank. Why are you at the sanatorium?”

“I am at the sanatorium because I am mentally disturbed.”

“But why do people think that you are mentally disturbed, Frank?”

“Because I saw aliens.”

“Didn’t you see Satanists?”

“No, I saw aliens.”

“That’s very good Frank I can see that we are making progress here. If you keep making progress like this you might be released from the sanatorium and go home. Would you like that?”

“Yes, I would like that doctor. They don’t give you good food at the sanatorium.”

“Very well Frank now this is what you have to do if you are to be released from the sanatorium. The only way that you can be released is if you remember to take your medicine all the time, every day. Do you understand?”

“Yes doctor. I must take my medicine.”

“And when must you take your medicine?”

“All the time, every day.”

“Now this is the medicine that I am prescribing for you Frank, are you listening?”

“Yes doctor. I am listening.”

“Your medicine is called alcohol. You may take it in any form but you must have alcohol every day in whatever form you can get it. I am a medical doctor and that is what I am prescribing for your problem. Do you understand?”

“Yes, doctor, I understand. Thank you for helping me.”

“Frank, although you will always remember what I have told you today, you will never tell anyone what I have prescribed for you. Do you understand? Even if someone hypnotizes you, you will never disclose that I have prescribed this medicine for you. It is our secret and it will help you forget about the aliens. Do you understand?”

“I understand, doctor.”

“That’s good Frank. Now you will wake up when I count to five backwards and snap my fingers. When you wake up you will feel very clear-headed and will be fully aware of everything around you. You will never
